Leadership Conference of Women Religious Assembly Explores Issues Facing the Global Community

[Orlando, FL]  At the annual assembly of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) held in Orlando, FL, August 13-16, the more than 820 participants discussed some of the critical issues facing the global community and how US Catholic sisters may respond to them.

LCWR Statement on Meeting with CDF

On April 15, 2013 Sister Florence Deacon, OSF, LCWR president; Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, LCWR president-elect; and Sister Janet Mock, CSJ, LCWR executive director; met with Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF); Archbishop Luis Ladaria, secretary of CDF; and other members of the CDF dicastery. Archbishop J. Peter Sartain was also present.

The LCWR officers reviewed the activities of this past year since receiving the report of CDF’s doctrinal assessment of LCWR in April 2012.

LCWR Assembly Decides Next Steps in Response to CDF Assessment

At the annual assembly of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) held in St. Louis, MO, August 7-10, the more than 900 participants planned their response to the doctrinal assessment of the organization by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF). [Silver Spring, MD] On June 12, LCWR president Sister Pat Farrell, OSF and executive director Sister Janet Mock, CSJ, met with Cardinal William Levada, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), and Archbishop Peter Sartain. The meeting had been requested by the LCWR to address what the conference considered deficiencies in the process and the results of the doctrinal assessment of the organization released by the CDF in April.

[Garden Grove, CA] As Catholic sisters in the United States explore their future, approximately 650 leaders of their orders met in assembly where discussion of the mission of Catholic sisters in the face of the rapid and pervasive changes occurring in the world headed the agenda. These Catholic sisters, members of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), gathered for their annual meeting from August 9 to 12, under the theme “Mystery Unfolding: Religious Life for the World.”
