Many Ways to Celebrate One Faith

This Palm Sunday as I listened to the African American Spiritual, “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” being sung in Chinese at Holy Family Church in Taipei, Taiwan, I began reflecting on other Holy Week observances in which I had participated over the years.
As a child we celebrated midnight mass for Easter as well as for Christmas. Very early in my religious life a new, vibrant team of co-pastors introduced our parish to new liturgical norms for Holy Week. The sisters, including this non-choir member, were the choir for that first Easter Vigil liturgy and for many future ones. We began with a huge fire lit outside the church which brought all the neighbors to their porches to see what was going on. (Go to attachment to read more)
