A Global Heart in a Global Church for a Global World

Usually when we sit down to put our thoughts on paper, we are sitting at a desk in an office on the actual ground of our home planet, Earth. I am sitting at a tray table on a flight at an altitude of 42, 000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean on my way home from the LCWR annual visit to Rome. Quite a different venue offering quite a distinct vista to say the least!
However, the venue and vista do provide a framework for reflection on much of the experience of the 2015 LCWR conversations with the many and varied Congregations and Pontifical Councils we visited. The pastoral care of migrants and refugees, justice and peace issues of unprecedented proportions, social communications with the inherent complexities of human excellence as well as exploitation, promoting the new evangelization of peoples rooted in the Gospel message of inclusion and reverence, the realities of religious life in the United States and around the world, the necessity of inter-religious dialogue in service of reconciliation and unity, and the depth of faith brought to bear on the lives of God’s People, all living beings and God’s Holy Creation---all of these conversations touched the very heart of what it means to be part of a Global Church in a Global World.
